“Gentlemen,” said Mr. Lincoln, “I could not have slept tonight, if I had left those helpless little robins to perish in the wet grass.” ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Bush Stone-curlew
Burhinus grallarius
Status: ENDANGERED
Distribution: Australia wide
The Bush Stone-curlew, or Bush Thick-knee, is a ground-dwelling bird that grows to an average of 55cm. The appearance of this bird is unique in Australia. Its distinctive call is likened to a “WER-LOOOO”.

Below my house the National Parks have fenced off an area where one of these female birds has a nest scrape.  The dogs and cats of the neighborhood are responsible for killing off this species in particular. I have many photos of the birds I see in the area beneath the cliff  my house is on..  This is a nice present for all of us to know that the species is hanging in there and she has an egg.  I think I want to go and sleep down there!

This is the area this bird is nesting in below my house here in Urunga.

Christmas is a holiday that persecutes the lonely, the frayed, and the rejected. Jimmy Cannon

Christmas is, of course, the time to be home - in heart as well as body.
Garry Moore
Christmas is getting more and more lonelier each year.   The massive Christmas's inviting everyone who had no one all done while nursing the latest sniper attack from my ex who managed to screw Christmas more times than I care to actually remember, to being completely forgotten and left out myself for any real Christmas lunch forevermore.  Destined to always now have a time of loneliness and a time of tears remembering memories mostly bad but some good.  The memories are strange now and warped in my mind but if I think carefully the thoughts bring themselves back into line and I realize its just a day and it will finally unwind just like all the others.

Sergeant Matthew Locke- Killed in action on October 25, 2007 - aged 33 - The War is over for some..

The convoy’s departure came three days after the American military folded its flag in a ceremony to celebrate the end of its mission and marked the end of the nearly nine year war.

The war launched in March 2003 with missiles striking Baghdad to oust President Saddam Hussein.. and then the the American military slipped out of the country last week, the world hardly noticed at all.

Relics are treasured as something close to the divine. - Sarah Vowell

Old Pylons by the twin rivers of the Kalang and Bellinger

Old things were once cared for and still are today in some quarters.  This is a practice that is dying out as it becomes evident that the new generations are not interested in looking after what has gone before them.  Today society is very much a throw away society and there is no value in looking after the past according to them.  Do they know this though?  When they are young do they really know this well enough to make this decision for humanity and should we let them do this?

URUNGA CAROLS 2011 ... We call it peace in a pipe ..And it’s just like fireworks Mind Over Matter

Fireworks
This year the festivities started at 5pm and there was a wide variety of local entertainers and community singing. There was plenty of Food and drink  available to purchase and most brought along a picnic. Santa turned up from the North Pole for a quick visit. The evening finish at 9pm with the most spectacular fireworks display out over the two rivers.( Kalang and Bellinger Rivers).

If you want to conquer fear, don't sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy. - Dale Carnegie

Looking Back towards home.
Today early to occupy my mind and my body I rode my push bike out to the beach and got a flat tyre.  I am glad really as it was glass that caused the puncture and it was better in my tyre than a childs foot.
I pushed it all the way back home a little disappointed and then well occupied but not before snapping this pic of looking back towards home.   I love my home.
